It is the second time the Clare town earned the title.

Ennis in Clare has been named Ireland’s Tidiest Town for 2021 from nearly 850 entries to the competition this year.

The town was announced the winner of the Tidiest Town Award at a scaled-back event held in the RDS on Friday (12 November) that was live-streamed to thousands of viewers around the country.

It also was crowned Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre, while the other big winners on the day were Geashill in Offaly for Ireland’s Tidiest Village, Abbeyleix in Laois for Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town and Cobh in Cork for Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town.

The competition, which is sponsored by SuperValu, has been in existence since 1958 and this is the second time Ennis has achieved the title, having previously been named the winner in 2005.

After announcing the result, Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys called Ennis “very deserving winners”, stating the town continues to showcase “all that is good about community and volunteerism”.

The Minister also announced on Friday a special allocation of €1.5 million in funding to support the work of individual TidyTowns Committees around the country to assist them in their continued efforts to enhance their towns and villages.

This is the fifth consecutive year that funding has been provided to support these committees and brings the total allocated since 2017 to €6.7 million.
