Renua Ireland advertise for a new leader for €65k a year

Tony Cuddihy

The party are looking to replace its founder Lucinda Creighton after their General Election whitewash.

Renua Ireland are set to advertise for a new leader to take over from Lucinda Creighton, who stepped down following their failure to win a single seat in last February’s General Election.

It comes with a salary of €65,000, and the Irish Independent reports that Renua will look for a new leader ahead of its AGM on 3 September.

Applications for the job must be limited to councillors, senators and TDs, so anybody shaking out their piggybanks to begin a life in politics can stop now. It’s not gonna happen.

Renua does qualify for state funding after reaching 2% of the national vote, despite the fact that none of its members made it into Dáil Eireann.

“People have been wondering what would happen after Lucinda and there will be movement soon,” a party source told the Independent.

“A decision has been taken to try again but the first hurdle to overcome will be selecting a new leader.”

The current favourite to take over from Creighton – who went on to set up Vulcan Consulting – is Offaly councillor John Leahy, who helped to launch the party with Creighton and Eddie Hobbs in March 2015.
