Five explosive devices found in backpack near New Jersey station

Paul Moore

One of them has been detonated.

The security alert that has gripped the US in the wake of the Manhattan bombing has escalated after five explosive devices were discovered  in a backpack in a New Jersey train station.

AP are reporting that one of the five devices that were found has since been detonated via a controlled explosion.

The authorities were alerted after two men called the police after seeing wires and a pipe coming out of the package.

After the discovery was made, services on the Northeast Corridor line were immediately suspended as were any train journeys between Newark Liberty Airport and Elizabeth.

The FBI are leading the investigation and are currently working to disarm the other four devices.

The discovery of this suspicious package comes a day after 29 people were injured after the explosion in Manhattan.
