Former Olympic boxer Kenny Egan takes a seat for Fine Gael in Clondalkin

Egan retired as a boxer in 2013.

Kenny Egan has been elected as a Fine Gael representative in Clondalkin, taking the seventh of eight seats on South Dublin County Council.

The former boxer was a silver medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games but retired from the sport last year.

He was one of three candidates deemed elected without reaching the quota, with a total of 1,407 votes.

Egan has said that he wants to help people in his area with issues such as heavy drinking, misuse of drugs and obesity.
