Four men lose their lives in three separate road collisions on Irish roads

Paul Moore

The collisions took place in Kildare, Meath and Donegal.

The RSA recently released their review of 2016 to date and in that report, they discovered that there has been a 10% increase in collisions and an 8% increase in the number of deaths on Irish roads compared to the same period in 2015. Sadly, Tuesday evening was indicative of this worrying trend as four men tragically lost their lives in Kildare, Meath and Donegal respectively.

In Kildare, an accident on the road between Kilcock and Clane resulted in the tragic death of a young man in his early twenties.

An articulated truck collided with a car at 11.30pm near Baltracey and the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene while the truck driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Blanchardstown Hospital.

Tragedy also befell the roads in Meath as a 42-year-old man died following a collision on the R152 Dunboyne to Maynooth Road at Castlefarm near Dunboyne.

The five people that were occupying the other car also had to be treated in hospital but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Meanwhile in Donegal, Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision at Trimragh, Letterkenny which claimed the lives of two young men.

Both of the men, believed to be in their late teens and 20s, died after their car collided with an oncoming van.
