The medal was awarded during the War of Independence.
Gardaí in Cork have issued a public appeal for information in the case of an heirloom medal that has been stolen.
The medal was stolen from the car of the recipient’s granddaughter.
In a statement on Facebook, Gardaí wrote: “A medal like this was stolen recently from a vehicle in the Fermoy district. It was still in the original presentation box. In 1920 it was presented to the victim’s grandmother, who was a member of Cumann na mBan.
“This medal is of great sentimental value. It should be instantly recognisable to collectors and dealers and we would ask anyone who has an interest in this area to bear this in mind if a similar one is offered for sale.”

The Gardaí also asked Facebook users to refrain from commenting publicly about any possible sightings of the medal, instead asking them to contact Fermoy Garda Station at 025 82100.
