Gardaí in Kildare have issued a warning that the onset of winter often comes with a sharp increase in burglaries.
As we hurtle past Hallowe’en and into the winter months, your chances of being burgled increase significantly. Kildare Gardaí warn that burglaries go up by as much as 23% between November and January.
According to Kildare Now, a spokesperson for the Gardaí said “Whether you are at home or going out, remember to turn on some lights, use timer switches, lock all doors and windows, use an alarm, store keys away from windows and letter boxes and don’t store large amounts of cash or jewellery in the house.”
Kildare Now further report that an average burglary results in losses to the value of €600. Almost half of these burglaries came during the day, between 5pm and 11pm. Almost 20% of the burglaries involved entry through an unlocked window or door.
So if you want to make sure that your Christmas presents aren’t nicked from beneath the tree this winter, make sure to keep everything locked up tight.
