Take care on the roads.

An Garda Síochána have issued an appeal to the public to be extra vigilant while on the roads for the remainder of the Bank Holiday weekend following a number of road fatalities over the past couple of days.

Two people lost their lives on the roads on Sunday alone while there were a number of serious collisions over the course of the weekend.

A man in Tipperary lost his life when the car the 4×4 he was travelling in left the road. Two others were taken to hospital following the incident.

In Kerry, a man was killed when he was struck by a car while out cycling on the Gap of Dunloe Road near Beaufort.

Gardaí warned that changing weather can have an impact on driving conditions and reiterated that Gardaí will be out monitoring for dangerous driving.

Speaking on Sunday, Assistant Commissioner David Sheahan – Roads Policing & Major Event Management said: “Be mindful of the changing weather conditions that impact on road surfaces, never ever drink and drive, reduce your speed and arrive alive to prevent any further tragedy on our roads.”

Members of the Garda Roads Policing Unit will continue to target intoxicated driving along with other killer behaviours such as speeding, mobile phone use and non-wearing of seatbelts across the roads network over the June Bank Holiday.
