Gardaí launch investigation after body discovered on Lambay Island

Gardaí have launched an investigation after the discovery of a body on Lambay Island.

In a statement to JOE, a Garda spokesperson said the discovery was made on Thursday evening (27 January) by staff working on the island which is located off the coast of north Dublin.

The remains have been taken to the Dublin City Morgue where a post-mortem examination will be conducted by the State Pathologist.

It is said the results of the post-mortem and DNA analysis by Forensic Science Ireland will assist investigating Gardaí in confirming the identity of the remains and with the course of their investigations.

Enquiries into the discovery are ongoing.
