The assault took place in Swords in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A man is being treated for serious head injuries following an assault outside a nightclub in Swords, County Dublin, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency services arrived at the scene at 3.40am to discover the man being attended to by nightclub staff.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he remains this morning.
Gardaí have preserved the scene for examination and are hoping to speak to anyone who may have witnessed an altercation between two men outside the club between 3am and 3.30am.
They also hope to speak to the driver of a light or brown-coloured taxi who may have picked a man up close to where the alleged assault took place.
A Garda statement reads: “There was at least one other occupant in the taxi at the time. The man who got into the taxi is described as wearing a light coloured short-sleeved t-shirt and dark trousers.”
