The car involved rammed a number of Garda vehicles before being forced to stop.
Gardaí seized a loaded firearm in Limerick last night, as part of ongoing investigations targeting organised criminal gangs on the North and Southside of the city.
Just after midnight last night, Gardaí tried to stop a silver saloon car in the Corbally area of Limerick city shortly after midnight on Monday.
During the interception, a number of Garda vehicles were rammed into when the driver tried to take evasive action.
No one was injured in the process.
A search of the vehicle was then conducted and Gardaí recovered a semi-automatic Luger pistol, loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.
Both men – aged 25 and 29 – were arrested at the scene and taken to Henry Street Garda Station where they are currently detained pursuant to Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Both men are currently being questioned.
