PIC: Gardaí stop driver in Limerick for going almost four times the speed limit

Carl Kinsella

Very dangerous.

A Garda road operation in Limerick has stopped several drivers exceeding the speed limit by significant amounts.

According to the Limerick Mayor Daniel Butler, one driver was captured going at 168km/h in a residential area on St Nessan’s Road, Raheen, where the speed limit is just 50km/h. Butler spoke up on the offence, calling it “incredibly dangerous.”

Other vehicles on the National/Motorway network were clocked going at speeds such as 156km/h, 157km/h and 164km/h. The Gardaí posted speed camera images on their official Twitter account.

These latest updates follow a Christmas and New Year period where the Gardaí made many arrests for drink-driving, and recorded well over 1000 motorists breaking the speed limit on Irish roads.
