Garth Brooks increasingly likely to play five nights in Croke Park next year

It’s 2014 all over again.

An events licence has been granted for two more proposed concert dates at Croke Park next year, seemingly setting the stage for Garth Brooks to play five nights at the venue.

Last September, Virgin Media News reported that the country singer was tentatively locked in for gigs on 9, 10 and 11 of September, 2022 at Croke Park and that an application for two further concerts there on the following weekend was pending.

However, on Friday evening (5 November), Dublin City Council confirmed to JOE it has granted Aiken Promotions an events licence for the 16-17 September concert dates.

The announcement makes it appear increasingly likely that Brooks will finally get to play five nights at the venue seven years after the infamous “five or none” debacle.

In a statement, the council said the granted licence “contains detailed, robust and wide-ranging conditions” and that it considers the decision to give the green light to Aiken Promotions to be “reasonable, fair and balanced following a full and detailed consideration of the application.”

As for other Croke Park gigs to take place next year, Ed Sheeran is pencilled in to play two concerts at the venue in April.
