People have been rallying to help.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Mary Ellen Molloy, the young Irish nurse who tragically lost her life in Australia when a tree fell on the taxi she was travelling in.
The 26-year-old from Ardara in Donegal died instantly in the accident, while another passenger in the car, Sarah Fitzpatrick was injured and will require surgery.
The driver of the taxi and the other passenger, Aoife Sheridan, were not injured.
All three women were members of St Kevins GAC in Melbourne and members of the club have set up a GoFundMe page to help their families.
The funds raised will go towards supporting the womens’ families and easing the financial pressures at this time.
In a statement on Saturday, St Kevins GAC said: “Mary Ellen was always smiling, so bubbly and caring. She would go out of her way to check in and find out about others.
“She was Donegal through and through and had such a strong love for her family and home. She will be dearly missed by our club and everyone that knew her.”
The page was created on Saturday and at the time of writing has already raised over €60,000 with nearly 2000 people donating.
Donations to the page can be made here.
