There was a major announcement by the Department of Transport today as they confirmed they’re making a large investment into the country’s roads.
According to the Irish Times, the department has said it will spend €324 million on improving regional and local roads.
The specifics were detailed by Minister for Transport Shane Ross who said that the money will by spent on resurfacing 1,980 kilometres of road while another 2035 kilometres of road will be ‘strengthened.’

Minister Ross also revealed that the investment will mean that a number of big projects around the country can go ahead, they include:
- Bettystown to Laytown Link Road, Meath
- Dingle Relief Road (Phase 4), Kerry
- Sallins by-Pass/Osberstown Interchange, Kildare
- Shannon Crossing in Killaloe, Clare
- Athy Southern Distributor Road, Kildare
- Portlaoise Southern Relief Road, Laois
- Eastern Garavogue Bridge, Sligo
- Grange Castle Business Park Roads, Dublin
A significant sum will be spent to ‘support industry and facilitate increased employment’ and urban regeneration projects. They include:
- Center Parc Development, Longford.
- Sallins Bypass / Osberstown interchange (Kerry Group)
- Grange Castle roads (IDA)
- Western Distributor Road, Sligo (IDA)
- Tralee to Fenit Road (IDA)
- Coonagh to Knockalisheen (Moyross) in Limerick
- Eastern Garavogue Bridge in Sligo
