Grafton Street in Dublin has been named as the 13th most expensive retail area in the world to rent, with a square metre of space costing an incredible €3,327-a-year to rent.
The annual Cushman and Wakefield Main Streets Across the World report takes a look at 462 of the world’s top retail streets, with the popular Dublin shopping area inside the 20 expensive worldwide.
“Grafton Street in Dublin saw 4.7% rental growth for the year in June and remains a key target for both mass and luxury retailers,” said the report.
“Rising demand from new entrants such as Victoria’s Secret and Other Stories is seeing the traditional pitch extend beyond the core to the surrounding streets to include Suffolk Street, Nassau Street and Dawson Street.
“There are some bespoke outlet villages such at the Kildare Village outside Dublin which is operated by Value Retail, but evidence indicates that this is not detracting from the attractiveness of the city centre.”
The world’s most expensive shopping street remains New York’s Fifth Avenue, just ahead of Causeway Bay in Hong Kong.
Streets in Paris, London and Tokyo completed the top five.
