Detective Jimmy McNulty will be very happy about this one.
Guinness has announced plans to open up its first American brewery in 64 years. The $80 million investment will open its doors in August, near the city of Baltimore, Maryland.
In true Guinness, fashion, however, the establishment won’t just be a brewery. The set-up will also feature a 270-seat restaurant and a tap room in a former distillery, according to the company.
The new venture will be called Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House.
The Baltimore brewery will be the sixth Guinness brewery. The iconic Irish dry stout currently owns and operates five breweries. St James’ Gate in Dublin, another in Malaysia, one in Ghana, one in Nigeria and one in Cameroon.
“The USA is probably the most dynamic and exciting beer market in the world right now, and, put simply, we’d like to be closer to the action,” said Guinness, according to The Drinks Business.
“Having a brewery in the USA will help us understand and respond to trends more quickly, as well as brew smaller batches and get them to market faster.”
We suspect that there’ll be plenty of Irish people taking the trip to Baltimore to see how their pints compare to the original.
