Homicides and burglaries in Ireland fell in 2015, but it’s not all good news

Carl Kinsella

New figures released by the Central Statistics Office today show how crime affected Ireland in 2015.

Homicide fell drastically when compared to 2014 – with 57 deaths by homicide in 2015, compared to 80 in 2014. Burglaries also fell by 5% when compared to the previous year.

However, it’s not all good news from the CSO , who reported a stark 15% increase in sexual offences, with an increase of 308.

Kidnapping also rose astronomically, a 25% increase on the previous year. On average, there was a kidnapping more than once every three days in Ireland in 2015.

Modest decreases were seen in drug offences, weapon offences and hijacking offences – thought “attempts to murder, threats and assaults” were up by 11.8%.
