Here’s what the weather will be like from today until St. Stephen’s Day

It ain’t great

Conor Heneghan

White Christmas? Seems very unlikely.

The effects of Storm Eva, hot on the heels of Storm Desmond, could have kept many of you awake last night and the next few days don’t appear to be too much better on the weather front.

All we need now is a Storm Frank to make it a very merry Christmas.

National weather warnings – a status orange wind and status yellow storm warning for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Clare and a status yellow wind warning for practically the rest of the country – remain in place until midnight tonight with a cold spell set to follow on Christmas Eve.

Temperatures will hit highs of four or five degrees tomorrow with strong winds forecast all over the country and frost expected in many areas.

Most of us will wake up to a cold, bright and sunny morning on Christmas Day, but it won’t be long until a return to what has become the norm of late, mild conditions with temperatures of up to 12 or 13 degrees, with the standard wind and heavy rain for good measure.

Similar conditions are expected on St. Stephen’s Day, with mild and dreary spells forecast during the day before the mercury drops a little bit lower in the evening time and overnight, with the cycle of mild and miserable weather starting afresh on Sunday morning.

Looks like staying indoors is your best bet for the next few days folks.
