Conor Heneghan

Eight Irish colleges made a list of the best 1,000 universities in the world.

Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University College Cork, NUI Galway, the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin City University, NUI Maynooth and University College Limerick have all been included in a list of the best 1,000 universities in the world.

Queens University in Belfast and the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland also made a list compiled by the Centre for World University Rankings, who rank universities using eight criteria such as alumni employment, influence and quality of education.

Not surprisingly, influential American colleges such as Harvard, Stanford and Princeton feature prominently in the top ten alongside famed British institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge.

Trinity College is the highest-ranking Irish university in 175th place, while universities in Tokyo and Kyoto in Japan are the only universities outside of the US and the UK to rank in the top 20.
