How did your university fare?

National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG), University College Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons were the highest-ranked Irish universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings published on Wednesday.

For the first time in the 12-year history of the rankings, an Irish university doesn’t feature in the top 200 universities worldwide, with Trinity College Dublin missing out altogether after it emerged that it supplied incorrect data relating to the college’s income, reportedly misplacing a decimal point.

University College Dublin saw its ranking drop from 176th in last year’s list into the 200-250 band, where it is joined by NUI Galway and the Royal College of Surgeons, which both moved up from the 250-300 band in last year’s table.

University College Cork (UCC) and NUI Maynooth were both ranked in the 351-400 band, with Dublin City University (DCU) next best in the 401-500 band.

University of Limerick, meanwhile, ranked in the 501-600 band, while Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) ranked in the 601-800 band.

Overall, Oxford University claimed top spot from Caltech, becoming the first university in the United Kingdom to feature at the top of the list.

Cambridge also features in a top ten dominated by universities in the United States, with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich coming in at number nine.
