High winds and heavy rain on the way as Storm Jonas set to hit Ireland

Another spell of inclement weather is set to hit Ireland in the next few days as Storm Jonas, which wreaked such havoc on the east coast of the US at the weekend, moves east towards Ireland.

Ireland will experience nothing like the severe conditions that caused heavy snowfall and caused the deaths of at least 20 people Stateside over the weekend, but Met Eireann have seen fit to issue two weather warnings valid until tomorrow afternoon.

A status yellow wind warning has been issued, with gusts of up to 110 km/h and possibly even stronger in Atlantic coastal areas expected to hit parts of the country tonight.

Met Éireann have also issued a status yellow rainfall warning for west Munster, Connacht and Donegal, with falls in excess of 40mm expected in places.
