30 firefighters are still at the scene.

The city’s fire services are continuing to battle a blaze which broke out at a recycling centre at the Greenogue Business Park in Rathcoole, Co Dublin in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The alarm was raised shortly after midnight as the first call was made to 999 at five minutes past midnight. Four fire engines, a water tanker and a foam tender were called to the scene almost immediately and will continue to fight the fire for the rest of the day.

JOE spoke to Dublin Fire Brigade’s Mobilisation Officer Mario Lodola who went into detail on the seriousness of the blaze.

“Currently we have a number of resources in attendance; foam tender, turntable ladder, five fire engines, a number of water tankers and a number of senior officers at the scene.

“We also have a drone out there that can be of benefit with fires of this size.

“About 30 firefighters are still working on the premises and, due to the nature of the material in the premises– in that they’re extremely flammable – we imagine they’re going to be out there for a few hours if not the whole day.”

All firefighters on the scene have been equipped with breathing apparatus.

Lodola also confirmed that no injuries have currently been recorded.

Homeowners in the area are being advised to close their windows to devoid themselves of the thick black smoke emanating from the scene near the N7.

AA Roadwatch also warned motorists int he area to exercise caution as visibility was limited in the area due to smoke plumes, particularly on the N7 at J4 Rathcoole.

Dublin Fire Brigade has also urged drivers “not to be distracted by the smoke”.
