If you’re a Bank of Ireland customer and heading out tonight, bring plenty of cash

Tony Cuddihy

Anyone with a Bank of Ireland debit card will not be able to withdraw money from ATMs in the small hours of Monday morning.

The bank has announced that maintenance was carried out between 3am and 7am on Sunday morning, and the same will apply tonight between the hours of 1am and 5am across the country.

Most of us will be in bed as soon as the end credits of Glenroe roll (yeah, we know, it’s not 1993) but for anyone whose ‘couple of handy ones’ turns into all-out carnage, we advise you to get to an ATM before 1am as you might not be able to pay for that kebab with your debit card either.

A notice on the Bank of Ireland website reads: Due to scheduled IT maintenance Bank of Ireland confirms that there will be no service for our ATM/debit cardholders at any ATMs (Bank of Ireland/ non-Bank of Ireland) during the hours of 03.00 am to 07:00 am on Sunday, 22 May and from 01:00 am to 05:00 am on Monday 23 May.

Some ATM/debit card customers may also be unable to conduct point-of-sale transactions during the same period. Bank of Ireland credit card point-of-sale transactions will not be affected. Credit card holders won’t have service at Bank of Ireland ATMs but will have access to services at non-Bank of Ireland ATMs.

Customers who top up their mobile phone credit using our 365 Online or our mobile and tablet apps will have the credit applied once the service has been fully restored.

The Bank of Ireland ATM fleet in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and UK Post Offices will also be unavailable to any non-customers at that time.

We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience they may experience during this scheduled IT maintenance.
