Met Éireann have issued Status Yellow rain and thunderstorm warnings for several counties as lightning is set to strike.

The first to take effect was a rain alert for Cork and Kerry, which will be valid until midday on Wednesday (11 October).

The second, meanwhile, is also a rain alert which applies to Waterford and Wexford and will be in effect until 3pm the same day.

“Rain turning heavy and thundery at times overnight and Wednesday morning,” both warnings reads, with Met Éireann listing the potential impacts as “localised flooding” and “difficult travelling conditions”.

As well as the rain alerts, a thunderstorm warning was also issued for Carlow, Cork, Kerry, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford which will be valid until 12pm.

“Scattered thunderstorms in the vicinity with lightning strikes,” it reads.
