The Government is being asked to improve road conditions in various counties

Paul Moore

Is your county on the agenda?

Business leaders from eight towns and counties around Ireland will be meeting this Tuesday in a bid to get the Government to upgrade the N4 and N5 routes.

The ‘N4/N5’ Chambers – representing Athlone, Mullingar, Longford, Sligo, Carrick-On-Shannon, Donegal and Roscommon – will present their case at a meeting in Buswells Hotel, Dublin.

The group believe that the current state of the roads is putting the north west and western regions of Ireland at a disadvantage because the current condition of the roads is detrimental to industry, employment and tourism.

The Chambers are going to stress that the following points should be pursued by the Government in the upcoming Capital Spending Plan for 2017:

N4 Motorway from Mullingar, Co Westmeath to Rooskey, Co Roscommon – completion of all pre-construction works in the short term leading to commencement of construction by 2021.
N4 – Co Sligo – Collooney to Castlebaldwin- construction to commence during 2018.
N4 –Co Leitrim – Bypass of Carrick-On-Shannon – completion of all planning and pre-construction works leading to commencement of construction by 2021.
N5 – Co Longford – Longford to Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon – completion of all work to allow work to start now.

Those attending the meeting include representatives from business group IBEC, Chambers Ireland and the US multi-national firm Abbot.
