Except for one…
The QS World University Rankings 2016/2017 have been revealed and it seems that the last year hasn’t exactly been kind to the Irish universities.
Due to a number of factors, the majority of the Irish universities have suffered a drop in the rankings.
Trinity College Dublin (TCD) has fallen 20 places to 98th overall, leaving it perilously close to slipping outside the top 100 universities in the world.
University College Dublin (UCD) has also fared badly, slipping 22 places to 176th in the rankings. That’s a dramatic fall from 2012 when the university was ranked number 131.
There’s some good news as NUI Galway has made the jump into the top 250. NUIG has been slowly improving year on year since 2012 where they placed at 287.
Elsewhere University College Cork falls 50 places to 283rd and Dublin City University falls seven places to 380 on the list.
The University of Limerick and Maynooth University rank in the 501-550 and 651-700 brackets respectively.
The QS World University Rankings ranks universities on a number of criteria including academic reputation, employer reputation, student to faculty ratio, citations per faculty (a piece of research being cited (referred to) within another piece of research) and international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
