Well that didn’t last very long, did it?
A mere three days after announcing its plans to do so, Ryanair have today backtracked on plans to launch a transatlantic service in the near future.
The airline today released a statement to dismiss speculation that they had any plans to fly transatlantic from Europe within five years, speculation that arose because of a statement released by Ryanair on Monday of this week.
A Ryanair statement issued today read: “In the light of recent press coverage, the Board of Ryanair Holdings Plc wishes to clarify that it has not considered or approved any transatlantic project and does not intend to do so.”
The statement appears to confirm that Ryanair has decided to adopt a completely different stance than what was suggested on Monday, when another statement indicated their intention to fly transatlantic as part of their plans for future growth.
The statement released on Monday read: “The board of Ryanair, like any PLC, has approved the business plans for future growth, including transatlantic.
“We are talking to manufacturers about long-haul aircraft but cannot comment further on this. European consumers want lower cost travel to the USA and the same for Americans coming to Europe. We see it as a logical development in the European market.”
There were obviously some seriously mixed messages floating around within Ryanair that two completely contrasting positons would be revealed within the space of a week and this development is obviously not ideal for the airline from a PR point of view.
Guess those cheap trips to New York, Las Vegas etc, will have to be put on the backburner for the time being then.
