Giving workers the break they deserve? Now you’re talking, Jeremy.
British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is certainly not without his critics, and his party is currently so unpopular that Prime Minister Theresa May has called a snap election in order to consolidate her power…
But a few more policies like this one and Corbyn could see a fair few more votes swinging back in Labour’s direction. The Islington North MP has proposed no fewer than four new bank holidays for English workers — a move that would certainly be welcomed on Irish shores. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Funnily enough, there’s even an Irish bent to one of Corbyn’s proposed new holidays, as he’s called for the breaks to be introduced for: St David’s Day (March 1st), St Patrick’s Day (March 17th), St George’s Day (April 30th) and St Andrew’s Day (November 30th).
According to Newstalk, Corbyn said:
“For years, Britain’s workers haven’t had a proper pay rise, with wages for most people still below 2007 levels. After seven years of painful austerity, our workers deserve a break – and under a Labour government, they will have the opportunity of four more days off a year.”
