It is some truly jaw-dropping footage.
As many as 47 cars are reported to have been a part of a massive pile-up in Kansas City, where a sudden downturn in the weather resulted in one of the area’s busiest highways to become fatally treacherous to drivers.
It is reported that at least one person was killed during the pile-up, with many more injured and hospitalised.
Kansas City News producer Dante Jones shared video of the incident on Twitter:

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Samuhel explained how the incident took place:
“In addition to the snow, it was very cold, 10-15 degrees F, while the snow was falling. So, snow was able to immediately accumulate on roadways.
“If there was heavy traffic present, it’s not out of the question the traffic caused the snow to melt.
“Once melted, it would refreeze almost instantly producing icy conditions.”
