Man in his 20s killed in early-morning Kerry crash

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

A man in his 20s has died following a single-vehicle crash in Kerry in the early hours of Sunday.

The collision happened in Keel, Ballyheigue at approximately 7.20am and involved a car.

Gardaí have said that the man was pronounced deceased at the scene and there are no other injuries reported following the incident.

The crash is the second such incident on Irish roads this weekend, following the fatal collision on the N7 in Dublin yesterday involving a car and a truck.

A passenger in the car, a man aged in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the driver was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

In a statement to JOE on Sunday afternoon, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a fatal single-vehicle road traffic collision involving a car, that occurred at Keel, Ballyheigue, Co. Kerry, this morning, Sunday 18th August 2024 at approximately 7.20am.

“The male driver of the car (aged in his 20’s) was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“No other injuries were reported at the time.

“The scene is currently undergoing technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators.

“The road is closed with local diversions in place.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the incident between 6.30am and 7.30am today Sunday 18th August 2024, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Listowel Garda Station on 068 50820, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
