In a separate incident, three climbers who got into difficulty on the Kerry mountain were successfully rescued just yesterday.

A search for a walker who got into difficulty on Carrauntoohil on Tuesday, 26 December will recommence this morning by Kerry Mountain Rescue.

The missing walker contacted Gardaí by mobile phone yesterday evening to say he was lost. His exact location was unclear, but it’s believed that his search coordinates indicate a location in the Black Valley side of the MacGillycuddy Reeks.

The man spoke to the search teams saying that his conditions were reasonably good.

A search to find the man began yesterday, but was was suspended at about 1am due to extreme weather. It’s understood that the search involves the Valentia Coast Guard helicopter, Kerry Mountain Rescue, An Garda Síochána and a number of search teams.

In a separate incident, three climbers were rescued from Carrauntoohil yesterday following getting into some difficulty on the mountain. Two separate rescue operations took place.

These two incidents follow the status orange weather warning Met Éireann issued for Kerry just two days ago.
