A member of the British Parliament has been shot in her West Yorkshire constituency, according to reports in the UK media.

Jo Cox, the MP for Batley and Spen, is reportedly seriously injured after a shooting and stabbing incident that took place in Birstall, West Yorkshire, this afternoon. It has been reported that she was attacked in the library where she holds clinics with her constituents.

A witness speaking to The Telegraph said that a male shooter “was fighting with her and wrestling with her and then the gun went off twice and then she fell between two cars and I came and saw her bleeding on the floor.”

The Telegraph have also reported that Labour whips have told their colleagues that Cox’s injuries are serious, though they do not know how serious.

The police have escorted an ambulance believed to be carrying Cox, 41, to a Leeds hospital.
