Man in his 70s dies after being struck by car in Co Laois

The incident happened around 10.45pm on Sunday night.

A man has died after being hit by a car in Co Laois.

The male pedestrian in his 70s was struck by a car around 10.45pm last night, Sunday.

The incident occurred on the N80 at Crannagh, near Stradbally.

The driver of the car, a female in her 30s, was not injured in the incident.

The man was pronounced deceased a short time after, and was then removed to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.

A post-mortem examination is set to take place in due course.

The road currently remains closed, with Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examining the scene this morning, Monday.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Road users who may have camera footage and were traveling on the N80 at Crannagh between 10.30 pm and 11 pm on Sunday, February 23 are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
