Kate Demolder

A man in his 50s has been released following questioning.

A man arrested in connection with an investigation into an incident in which two Gardaí were injured has been released without charge.

The assault followed an operation in which armed Gardaí searched a house on Ballyogan Avenue shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Three men, one armed with a metal baseball bat, were alerted to the fact that searches were happening and proceeded to assault one of the officers, hitting him in the face, arms and body.

Seeing this, more people arrived and attacked the male and female Garda, who were forced to withdraw even as more officers arrived.

A Garda from the Armed Support Unit was also bitten by a dog.

Eventually a number of people were restrained, and one 58-year-old man was arrested and brought to Dún Laoghaire Garda Station. He was held for questioning in a follow-up operation on Saturday night.

The 58-year-old was arrested as part of the investigation was released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

The Garda who was bitten by a dog is currently receiving treatment.
