A man was shot dead in Ballysillan, Belfast shortly before 10pm last night, according to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
The man is believed to have been a prominent loyalist, and was killed in a predominantly unionist part of the city.
Stormont First Minister Arlene Foster took to her Twitter account to express her ‘shock and disgust’ at the murder, and request that all involved co-operate with the police investigation.
Shocked and disgusted to hear of a murder in nth Belfast tonight. I urge everyone to work with the police as they investigate.

Recently-appointed Secretary of State for Northern Ireland James Brokenshire restated that there is “no place for violence in communities.”
