The incident involved a motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, and his pillion passenger, a man in his 40s, who were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two other motorcyclists on separate vehicles were involved in the collision and were taken to separate hospitals, one with what Gardaí described as serious injuries and the other with non-life threatening injuries.

The road has since reopened to traffic, Gardaí confirmed in an updated statement this morning.
