Members of the public can reclaim stolen items on Garda National Property Recovered Day next week

Conor Heneghan

If you’ve ever had something stolen and never got it back, this might be your chance to recover it.

People who have had personal property stolen from them could have the chance to recover it at Garda stations throughout the country on Garda National Property Recovered Day next week.

In an effort to reunite property recovered by An Garda Síochána with owners and to provide support to victims of crime, a Garda National Property Recovered Day will take place next Thursday, 22 September 2016.

In selected Garda stations, in each Garda division, members of the public are invited to view photographs of property in Garda custody and avail of the services of Crime Prevention Officers and Victims Services at selected stations.

Most property recovered by An Garda Síochána is immediately returned to its owners, particularly in the recovery of property stolen in the course of theft and burglaries, but there are cases where An Garda Síochána is unable to identify the owner and the property remains in Garda custody.

A comprehensive list of locations, times and services provided (Crime Prevention Officers and Victims Services, Age Action Ireland) will be available on garda.ie from Tuesday, 13 September.
