Monsoon and Accessorize to close some shops across Ireland

Rudi Kinsella

It is expected that the closures will result in the loss of 545 jobs.

Several Monsoon Accessorize stores are set to close in Ireland, according to reports.

This news comes despite the company being bought out of administration in the UK by founder Peter Simon on Tuesday night.

The popular retailer fell into administration as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and Monsoon shops in Dublin, Cork and Kilkenny will close as a result.

According to RTÉ, the company being bought out of administration will result in 2,300 jobs being saved.

However, the closure of 35 stores across Ireland and the UK will result in the loss of 545 jobs.

The retailer has outlets all across Ireland, including stores in Galway, Limerick and Sligo.

This news comes as both Ireland and the UK have began lifting lockdown restrictions, and allowing a large number of retail outlets to reopen.

IKEA saw lengthy queues when it reopened for the first time on Monday, and other retail outlets across the country will reopen from this week onward.
