Very sad news.
A man has died after a road crash in Leitrim on Thursday (3 March).
At around 5pm, a motorcyclist and a car collided on the R208 at Aghacashlaun in Carrick-on-Shannon.
The male motorcyclist, aged in his late 40s, was fatally injured in the collision.
His body has been taken from the scene to University Hospital Sligo where a post mortem will be carried out in due course.
Meanwhile, the male driver and sole occupant of the car, aged in his late 30s, was uninjured and did not require medical attention.
As of Thursday night, the road is currently closed and the services of Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested.
Local diversions have been put in place.
A Garda spokesperson said in a statement that the road will remain closed overnight.
The examination of the scene will begin Friday morning at first light.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
Any road users who were travelling in the area at the time and may have camera footage, including dashcam footage, are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
