Very sad news.
A 30-year old woman from Mayo passed away in London earlier this week on her way home from a holiday in South Africa, where she had just got engaged to her boyfriend.
According to the Connaught Telegraph, Majella Donoghue, from Belmullet, became ill on a flight to Heathrow from Cape Town last Sunday.
Majella was immediately taken to hospital in London by ambulance after the plane touched down at Heathrow and passed away shortly afterwards.
An autopsy is believed to have been carried out but the results are not yet available and Majella’s remains are still in London awaiting repatriation.
During her stay in South Africa, Majella visited her godparents and got engaged to her partner, Barry Doherty from Ballina.
As well as her job as a Talent Acquisition Specialist in Boston Scientific in Galway, Majella also worked as an advocacy volunteer for the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and for the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation.
Local priest Fr. John Loftus said that the community was numbed by Majella’s death and described her as “pleasant, considerate and kind”.
