OFFICIAL: Hillary Clinton wins the Democratic nomination for US presidency

She becomes the first female presidential candidate in American history.

Hillary Clinton has been chosen by the Democratic party to go up against Republican Donald Trump in November’s US election.

In a rousing speech that was delivered via video feed at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia, the former First Lady has promised to “put the biggest crack” yet in the glass ceiling for women, as she became the first female White House nominee for a major political party.

“This is really your victory. This is really your night,” Clinton told the cheering crowd. “And if there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch, let me just say I may become the first woman President. But one of you is next.”

Once again there were chants of “Bernie, Bernie” from within the Democratic National Convention Hall but Mrs Clinton was the clear winner after passing the 2,382-delegate threshold that was required for the nomination. Despite his obvious disappointment, it’s clear that Bernie Sanders took immense pride in his campaign as seen by this wonderful moment below and his gracious concession of defeat.

Former US President Bill Clinton spoke passionately about his wife’s credentials and leadership qualities by saying ““She’s the best darn change-maker I ever met in my life. This woman has never been satisfied with the status quo in anything.”

The campaign trail is about to heat up as Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton vie to become the next President of the United States of America.
