The Oireachtas is set to discuss a petition to get Conor McGregor’s face on the €1 coin.
According to the government website, a petition was handed in last month in the days after McGregor beat Jose Aldo to claim the UFC Featherweight Championship.
The petition – created by Patrick O’Leary and submitted to the government on December 15th – is being examined but it is highly unlikely that a new special coin will be minted, given the fact that Ireland would need permission from the rest of the Eurozone.
The reason for this is that all coins are circulated throughout the Eurozone, and not just in a single member state.
