It is scheduled to open early next year.

Omniplex Cinema Group have announced plans to open a new five-screen cinema in the Nutgrove Shopping Centre in the Dublin suburb of Rathfarnham.

Set to be situated on the first floor of the shopping centre, it is said that Omniplex Nutgrove will offer “an elevated cinema experience with each auditorium featuring 50 ‘Pullman’ style sofas complete with footrests, state-of-the art Barco Laser Projection, Dolby Audio sound as well as freshly-popped popcorn”.

“A beer and wine lounge will also offer adults themed cocktails and refreshments to enjoy while watching their movie,” a statement about the new venue also reads.

The pullman-style cinema sofas are described as being “deeper seats with wider arms for full arm-chair comfort, offering 50% more legroom than standard cinemas for optimum viewing experience”.

Omniplex has said it will invest more than €3million into the cinema development, which is expected to generate up to 20 full and part-time job opportunities.

Located on the southside of Dublin, Rathfarnham has not had a local cinema since The Landscape Cinema on Landscape Road closed in 1955, nearly 70 years ago.

Director of Omniplex Cinema Group Mark Anderson said of the announcement: “It is hard to believe that, by the time Omniplex Nutgrove opens, Rathfarnham will have been without a local cinema for 70 years and we couldn’t be more excited to it bring it back.

“Our elevated cinema experience in Nutgrove will feature all ‘Pullman’ style double and single sofas in five, intimate 50-seater auditoriums offering the latest blockbuster movies. We look forward to serving the people of Rathfarnham for a long time into the future.”

The Omniplex Nutgrove is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2025.

This is just in time for the release of such upcoming blockbusters as 28 Years Later, Avatar: Fire and Ash, Ballerina, F1, Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Mission: Impossible 8, Thunderbolts*, Tron: Ares and Wicked: Part Two.
