One person dead after ambulance catches fire at Naas General Hospital

Alan Loughnane

Sad news this afternoon…

An ambulance has caught fire outside the A & E department of Naas General Hospital.

Gardaí have confirmed that one man, who was a patient in the ambulance, was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Gardaí and the HSE are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident occurred at approximately 2pm at the A & E entrance to Naas General Hospital.

The Emergency department at the hospital was been evacuated after the blaze broke out earlier this afternoon but it’s now understood that the fire has been extinguished.

The area has been sealed off for a technical examination.

In a statement the HSE said: “The hospital has advised any member of the public seeking access to medical care to visit their GP in the first instance and if necessary to access another Emergency Department in an alternative hospital.

“The hospital has also requested that members of the public refrain from visiting at this time.”
