This is a great gesture from the public…

A webpage set up overnight to help the family of David Houlihan bring his remains home from Thailand has raised over €28,000 in one night.

Mr Houlihan, from Waterford, drowned while backpacking over in Thailand earlier this week.

A family friend set up a YouCaring fundraising page called ‘helping to bring David home’ to originally raise €1,000 but it has far surpassed that figure now.

The description on the website says, “A collection to help the lads at this time. David’s family are looking after everything but we would all love to show our support. Any and all donations welcome.”

So far, over 900 people have written messages of condolences and support on the site for the family of the 24-year-old GAA player.
