Passengers on flight from Greece to Ireland reportedly forced to sleep in German airport

This is after numerous delays and disruptions to the flight.

Passengers travelling with TUI Airways from Greece to Ireland were reportedly forced to sleep in a German airport after numerous flight delays and disruptions.

Flight TOM1517 was originally scheduled to depart Corfu for Dublin on Friday (3 June) at 2.30pm.

According to RTÉ News, however, the flight ended up leaving the Greek island four hours later than expected on account of operational issues.

The outlet states that the travellers were notified then after boarding the plane that the aircraft would have to make a short fuel stop in Munich.

However, it wound up being diverted to Nuremberg Airport due to poor weather.

RTÉ News reports that, after being left on board the plane on the ground in the airport for around three hours, passengers were then told they would not be continuing their travels to Dublin on Friday night.

The outlet also said that while the travellers were informed they would be offered hotel accommodation for the night, it did not materialise, with airport management at Nuremberg instead later providing camp beds and blankets.

This was before passengers were taken via bus on an over three-hour-long journey to Stuttgart on Saturday morning, where they were checked into an airport hotel.

In a statement to JOE, TUI said the travellers are due to fly to Ireland later on Saturday and apologised for the delay and disruption to their flight.

“Unfortunately, due to operational issues, the flight departed late from Corfu and required a short fuel stop in Munich; poor weather in the area then required the aircraft to divert elsewhere,” a spokesperson said.

“Our teams have been working tirelessly to support affected customers, through direct communications and providing overnight accommodation and transfers where needed, as well as meals and refreshments. Customers are due to fly home later today.

“We’re sorry for the impact of this long delay and would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding at this time.”
