Pic: Ireland is set to get its own luxurious Orient Express train

No more travelling around conversing with hobo's on freight trains for us...

No more travelling around conversing with hobos on freight trains for us…

We’re big fans of travelling by train here at JOE Towers mainly because of the legend that is Thomas the Tank Engine. Is it wrong that we still know the names of his carriages?

Many of us here have also done the whole inter-railing around Europe thing before so we’ve become accustomed to sleeping in cramped chairs/beds whilst trying to block out the snores of complete strangers.

While there’s a lot to be said for slumming it on a crowded train we would probably prefer a little bit more luxury.

That’s why we were excited to learn that Belmond Ltd, a global conglomerate of luxury hotel and travel adventures, has bought ten carriages from Irish Rail and they plan to transform them into a luxury train that can host up to 40 guests.

The ‘Orient Express’-style train will be the first of its kind in Ireland, with plans for tours of Ireland’s countryside, coast and cities from summer 2016.

The ‘grand Hibernian’ will offer two, four and six-night rail experiences, with prices starting from €3,200. We’ll need a bit of money but if given the choice then we will definitely cho-cho-choose this for our next domestic holiday.

We’ll get our coats.
