Pic: Irish towns with the best and worst rates of passing the driving test have been revealed

West is best when put to the test

West is best when put to the test

JOE learned everything that we need to know about driving a car from video games and TV, although we still had to study and take driving lessons before taking our test.

While we struggled with our three-point turn and parallel parking to begin with, we passed the test with flying colours on the 73rd time of asking first time around.

The Irish Times have diligently been gathering info on the success rates from the 48 test centres across the country and the results are very interesting.

Between 2010 and 2013, Ennis tops the average success rate table (68.1 per cent pass rate), followed by Sligo (67.8 per cent), Tuam (64.5 per cent), Clifden (63.7 per cent) and Roscommon (63.3 per cent).

Here’s the breakdown of just 2013, not the whole entire three year period.

The study also goes on to show some interesting results.

For example, the Dublin area consistently records the lowest pass rates over this three year period, younger drivers are more likely to pass the test and that male motorists had a higher success rate.

We imagine that people from Ennis, and anyone else along the West coast of Ireland, will be feeling pretty pleased with themselves right now.
