Maybe leave this kind of thing until you’re home from France, James.
James McClean, fresh from turning in a heroic performance against Italy on Wednesday, has weighed in on the implications for Northern Ireland of today’s Brexit referendum results.
The West Brom winger is famously passionate about his roots and declared his love for Ireland as soon as the boys in green saw off Italy this week, but even he thought better of leaving this message up earlier on today.
McClean tweeted a photograph of himself stood alongside prominent nationalist and Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland Martin McGuinness, alongside the caption “Reignition of the flames of reunification #BorderPoll #UnitedIreland”
Many now speculate that Northern Ireland will take steps towards an independence referendum, having largely voted to remain within the EU.
Even so, McClean decided to keep politics of the agenda until we face France on Sunday and deleted his entire account.
